I was born in Louisville, but spent four years in Lafayette, Louisiana. In school, you were not only taught English but French as many of the locals were Cajun — the Acadian people of Louisiana. The Acandians were decendants of the French Canadians who settled in the region of Lafayette. As a child, I dreamed of going to Paris and seeing the Eiffel Tower. The concept behind this piece was to show a young girl in a ball gown dreaming of escaping her trapped, ordinary life and flying away to Paris, France.
