I grew up as an athlete playing soccer and basketball. I ran for exercise and fun to keep in shape. A few years ago, I started having pain radiate from my hip down to my toes. Seeing a spinal surgeon, I was told I had three bulging discs, narrow lumbar spinal canals, and sciatica. The worst part about it was that I could no longer run. I received a couple of steroid shots in the spinal canal to relieve the pain, but the relief lasted only six months. At over $2,000 with insurance, I decided to live with the pain as best as I can. This piece makes a statement about how sometimes people believe you may be feeling okay sometime and that you are beautiful on the outside but inside you are secretly wanting to cut out the pain.
